Professional standards and ethical policies
a) Editorial Board of Palaeohispanica
Information regarding the internal organization of the journal can be found on this website.
b) Authors' Responsibilities
As an implicit condition for publishing in Palaeohispanica, authors are expected to adhere to the fundamental principles of ethics and professional conduct that characterize all academic areas and publications. In the publication agreement, authors guarantee that their work is original, significantly contributes to the advancement of research, and has not been published elsewhere. These proposals for publication must contain bibliographic references at the end and an indication of how the writing of the article was funded.
Furthermore, authors agree to incorporate any necessary corrections suggested by reviewers and, ultimately, by the editorial board, into the proofs of their manuscripts.
All parties are expected to comply with the fundamental principles of professional respect and civility. In the event of conflicts such as (self)plagiarism, conflicts of interest, or abusive personal behavior, the following actions are anticipated:
Plagiarism and Reissue of Articles
Plagiarism is the act of reproducing a text or other materials from other publications without properly crediting the source. Such material is considered plagiarized whether it has been modified or paraphrased. Plagiarism is a serious ethical violation and may result in a legal violation of copyright if the reproduced material has been previously published. Authors wishing to cite other published works must cite the full original reference and include any direct quote in quotation marks. Graphics and illustrations may only be reproduced with the relevant authorization and must be properly cited in the caption, always following the guidelines specified on our website. If the reviewer or editorial board detects plagiarism or self-plagiarism, the manuscript will be immediately withdrawn from the evaluation process.
Conflicts of Interest
A reviewer who works at the same institution as the author or one of the co-authors of the text is ineligible to evaluate the manuscript. Editors must monitor for potential conflicts of interest.
c) Peer Review Process
The external evaluation method at Palaeohispanica is peer review, meaning obtaining an expert's opinion on a manuscript. Reviewers, in addition to their report, must suggest any bibliographical references that may be missing from the original manuscript.
The peer review is double-blind, ensuring both the anonymity of the author and the reviewers and their impartiality in the decision.
Journals and editors will not disclose the identities of the reviewers or the contents of their reports or correspondence related to the evaluation process to anyone outside the review process. Reviewers are bound by strict confidentiality; neither the manuscripts nor the contents of the correspondence between the author and editors during the evaluation process may be shared with third parties without the written permission of the editors.
Strictly speaking, authors are not bound by similar requirements (for example, they may choose to seek advice from co-authors and colleagues in the revision process once they have received evaluation reports), but the public disclosure of the contents of evaluation reports and correspondence with the editorial team is not appropriate. Any author who does so loses their rights to confidential protection from the journal.
In the event that abusive personal behavior is detected from the author toward external reviewers, other authors, editors, or members of the editorial team, their manuscript will be immediately withdrawn from the evaluation process.
All participants in the publication process, including editors, authors, external reviewers, and members of the editorial team, are expected to comply with the basic principles of professional courtesy and respect for the fundamental guidelines that govern the external evaluation and publication process. Personal attacks and verbal abuse, whether oral or written, are unacceptable under any circumstances, and the journal reserves the right to reject submissions from individuals who repeatedly violate these principles or refuse to cooperate with editors and reviewers in the normal evaluation and publication process.
d) Editorial Ethics
The editorial team of Palaeohispanica will ensure that no scientific misconduct has occurred in the preparation of the manuscript by conducting an evaluation of each submission before even selecting potential reviewers. If any misconduct is detected, the author will be asked for an explanation and will be required to revise the text to meet the journal's quality standards. If the author does not accept the revision, the manuscript cannot be submitted to peer review and, therefore, cannot be published. The editorial team is open to dialogue and discussion with authors in the case of any misunderstandings arising from this situation.
e) Copyright and Access to the Journal
The contents of the journal are governed by the Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA license. This license allows others to remix, adjust, and build upon the work for non-commercial purposes, as long as proper credit is given to the author and the new creations are licensed under the same terms. All journal content is open and freely accessible.
f) Archiving of Contents
The Institución Fernando el Católico is a powerful publishing house, and it is highly unlikely that access to the journal's contents will be compromised in the coming years. If the journal were to cease publication, the contents of Palaeohispanica would be stored on the institution's servers.
g) Ownership and Management of the Journal
The journal Palaeohispanica is edited and managed by the Institución Fernando el Católico, an autonomous body of the Excellent Provincial Government of Zaragoza.
h) Use of Artificial Intelligence
Authors must inform the journal and explicitly specify the use of artificial intelligence tools for processing information or generating images or other content. Authors are expected to use these tools responsibly, respecting the principles of transparency and data confidentiality.
